If it shakes: drop, cover and hold on.
In Spain, earthquakes happen mainly in the south-east and south, in areas such as Granada, Murcia or Alicante. Most are small, but it's worth knowing what to do in those seconds and afterwards.

What people ask most
Should I stand in the doorway?
That's old advice. Today the recommendation is to drop, take cover under a sturdy table and hold on to it until the shaking stops.
Should I run out into the street?
Not while it's shaking: many injuries are caused by falling glass and ledges. Wait until it stops and leave carefully if the building is damaged.
How do I prepare my home?
Fix tall shelves and furniture to the wall, don't put heavy objects above beds and keep a torch, shoes and a first aid kit to hand.
