Air full of dust or smoke: close up and protect yourself.

Calima (Saharan dust) and smoke from distant wildfires make the air worse for days. For most people it's a nuisance, but children, older people and people with asthma or heart problems should protect themselves.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask most

Where can I check air quality?

On the National Air Quality Index from Spain's Ministry for the Ecological Transition and on your region's air quality websites.

Do surgical masks help?

They offer little protection against fine dust and smoke. A well-fitted FFP2 is much more effective.

Can I exercise?

Better indoors, or wait until the air improves, especially if you have asthma or heart problems.
